Underserved Health Alliance (UHA) is an organization dedicated to teaching future healthcare professionals to ethically, compassionately, and effectively serve a variety of underserved communities through education, service, and reflection.
Our goal is to provide a structured space for students to explore topics related to health disparities, barriers to care, and the social factors that influence health outcomes, while also providing the opportunity to apply these understandings through direct service initiatives.
Following service opportunities, UHA also promotes reflection through holding discussions centered on recounting educational and ethical insights from the service events.
Each semester, members vote twice to choose which population we will focus on in the following weeks. Every cycle follows the same three-phase format.
We create a structured space for students to explore health disparities, barriers to care, and the social factors that influence health outcomes — then encourage students to put what they learn into practice through direct service initiatives with local communities and organizations.
Members shape the club's direction. Because members choose the population for each cycle, they help decide where UHA focuses — and gain exposure to a variety of communities over time.
We begin with events dedicated to learning about the selected population — including the health disparities, barriers to care, and social factors that shape their health outcomes.
Members then apply what they learned through several weeks of service events, working directly with the population we've chosen to focus on.
Finally, we hold structured discussions where members reflect on their service experiences, connect them to the educational content, and consider the educational, personal, and ethical lessons that emerged.
Our events follow the cycle — education first, then service, then reflection. All are open to members.
Meet the club, learn how cycles work, and vote on the population we'll focus on.
A session on the health disparities and social factors that shape outcomes for our chosen population.
Direct service with a local community partner, applying what we learned in phase one.
A structured discussion connecting our service experience back to the educational content.
We're always looking to grow our community of passionate, service-driven students. Whether you're interested in learning more about health disparities, gaining hands-on service experience, or simply finding meaningful ways to get involved in your community, we welcome you to join us.
No application and no prior experience needed — just an interest in health equity and a willingness to show up.
